Rogueish
more on my dream site
06/27/12
The gist of all this, I suppose, is that my dream music site would be one where it’s possible to be a fan of the site, for its own sake, and not just the stuff it publishes. It’s not that this is impossible now — I’m not indicting anyone in particular, and there are definitely a couple sites/magazines that qualify for me. But this’d be the sort of place you could spend hours on, look forward to updates from, refresh.
Sort of related, possibly, it seems like in the past year or so there have been a lot of launches (or re-launches with an attendant increase in profile) of semi-pro critical magazine type websites, such as The New Inquiry or the LA Review of Books (or actual physical magazines like Jacobin); where a few years ago if you wanted to write for the internet you might start a blog, now it seems like you’re likely to write for (or even start your own) online magazine. But if people are setting up their own online NYRBs, I haven’t yet seen this spread to people setting up their own online NMEs, which seems a bit like what this dream music site would be.
