Political repercussions of the loss of communism as a name for left aspirations include a corresponding turn away from militant opposition and toward generalized inclusion as well as an abandonment of tight organizational forms like the party, the council, and the cell in favor of broad, thin, and momentary calls to become aware of an issue and change one’s lifestyle.
So, this seems like it’s running together a bunch of things; what’s the connection between abandoning tight organizational forms and liberal “aware-ing” and lifestyle based campaigns? This may be related to another connection I’ve seen Jodi make which I also don’t follow, equating any collective exercise of power with “popular sovereignty,” whereas is seems to me that sovereignty is one very particular form of organization of power (indeed, a form of organization essentially connected to capitalism). Anyway, I’ll be interested to see how this issues are expanded on in the completed book.
